The little town of Tulum is slowly developing to offer various services (like an Internet Cafe for example) phone service, and more. There are several very good local restaurants and a few on the beach in the various properties in the hotel area on the beach that are absolutely wonderful and still very cost effective.
Accommodations in Tulum range from Rustic Cabanas to 5 star Small Jewels on pristine beaches. Enjoy it... It is a much slower paced vacation... Give yourself the break you really need...

What a great trip and finish to 2007..... December was exciting for the Sol Solution team. Six kids exploring a Mayan village, a sustainable community and bringing a message to other kids though song was the best finish to 2007 we could have asked for. (-:

Tulum offers an interesting experience, amazing white beaches, simple rustic cabana accommodations as well as a couple of romantic more luxurious comfortable properties.
The exact origins of the Mayas remain unknown. What is known about them is that they dedicated an immense amount of time to erecting giant monuments of stone, in the form of temples, pyramids and palaces.
In December I had the pleasure of staying in Tulum, an amazing area... I arranged accommodations at Cabanas Copal, a small Cabanas Property on the beach and was not sure what to expect. When I checked in and got to my cabana, I realized there was no electricity (here goes the hair dryer was my first thought...), or ceiling fans (Oh oh, Humidity check... ???) I must admit I was a little apprehensive but decided to be adventurous and live like a jungle woman for a day and try it anyway... (If you knew me... you would laugh, I am the type of person that likes my creature comforts... especially when it involves out of control hair in humid weather). The Simple and Rustic Cabana seemed comfortable and the beach was amazing... the mosquito nets over the bed and the candle light added a lot of romantic appeal and suddenly it seemed very charming and mysterious.
The long stretch of beach is very secluded and private, the tranquility and peaceful sense was completely relaxing and healing to the mind and body. I couldnt care less at that point that I looked like jungle woman and ended up staying 2 nights instead of one... If I didnt have to go back home the next day I would have stayed for a few more days.
If you want a few more ideas how to spend a week at Cabanas Copal... here is what they recommend....
