all in all, retiro maya was an excellent location, very peaceful, clean, with great staff. but their restaurant was expensive, the coffee lousy, and didn't really compare to other places we found in the district.
overall, given that other places offered similar rooms with breakfast included, i found the price of $180.00 per night to be excessive. there is no electricity to speak of, so we were essentially paying for a clean bed, running water, and being on the beach. but there's lots of places like that in tulum.
You should told us: no electricity, hot water only sometimes. Mosquitoes plentiful. We needed a liberal dose of repellant. Our cabana was in the second row, not the first. Juli, our hostess was very friendly and helpful.
