Yal-Ku lagoon is an amazing spot for The BEST snorkeling in the area, and I highly recommend it to anyone staying within a 30 mile radius to Akumal. It is one of the protected sites in the Mayan Riviera, people are asked not to use Lotion in the water (wear T shirts instead). It resembles an out door aquarium, abundant in marine life, the lagoon is a combination of fresh water from underground rivers and salt water from the ocean.
The water is not very deep and is ideal for anyone just starting out. Kids and Adults both have a wonderful experience. It's within walking distance from many accommodaitons in Akumal on Half Moon Bay but you will need your shoes to get there.
